This project features a studio based multi-track recording of the band “The Pikts” and their song “Nation Again”. On this project my duties included recording, editing, mixing, mastering and organizing the studio bookings whilst liaising with the band.

I have chosen to include this recording as it demonstrates my ability to work with a client in a studio environment and highlights many skills that are necessary when operating a recording studio.

I feel this recording showcases my skills as a studio engineer as i dealt with all aspects of the recording, mixing and mastering process. During the recording stage I took a lot of consideration in regards to microphone choice and placement, in particular when it came to recording the guitar parts. Here I decided to use two microphones on the guitar amp, allowing me to blend both captures during the mixing stage to provide more colour and distinction.

As a studio engineer it is important that I correspond regularly with clients, assuring that all arrangements have been planned out properly and the sessions run smoothly. I believe this project demonstrates this as I kept in regular contact with band members throughout the project, booking studio space when required and planning each session carefully.
