For this project I produced and engineered a multi-track recording for singer song writer Jamie McIntyre. I was approached by the artist to record his track “Our Flaw”. The client had heard my previous productions which feature electronic drums, synthesisers and electronic dance music elements and wanted me to incorporate this sound into the production. I set up a pre-production session with the client and he played me the track on guitar and sang the vocals. From here I recorded these elements and would use them as a guide track for me to sequence the foundations of the track. The client gave me creative control over the track, with his only request being that I keep the guitar melody and vocals, and build the track around that.

I then produced the raw track using Ableton Live, sequencing drums, synthesizers, samples, vocoder vocals and the guide track provided. Then I got the client into the recording studio to properly record the vocals and acoustic guitars.

When recording the vocals for this track outboard compression was used to control the dynamics and add extra analogue “flavour” to the recording.

I then mixed and mastered the track, regularly updating the client on my progress.

This project demonstrates my collaboration skills, and showcases my ability to take on the classic role of music producer, directing the artist towards a final product, combining both their creative ideas with my own.
